At the AGM on Monday, December 3rd, the decision was taken to reduce the size of the WKA committee to an executive of 4 people: Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Development Officer. The other roles may still continue, at the discretion of the committee, but they will simply report to the committee rather than constitute it.
Ian O’Sullivan was unanimously elected as the new Chair, with Susan Belfourd as Secretary and Max Lloyd as Development Officer. The treasurer position is yet to be filled, and the financial state of the WKA remains rather cloudy at the moment – though it was confirmed that all creditors have been paid off.
Big thanks should go to all the outgoing committee, who have overseen a dramatic growth in participation and profile of Welsh korfball.
The meeting also addressed some of the pressing issues that face Welsh korfball, particularly a shortage of qualified referees and coaches, and mandated a minimum of 2 refereeing courses and 1 coaching course be held during the remainder of the season.
The need for Cardiff City 1 and Cardiff Dragons 1 to gain consistent competitive fixtures was also raised, though thoughts on how to do this was left until after the resolution of the EKA competitions consultation, when Wales’ position within that structure is made clear.
In order to deal with this, and to ensure that the WKA committee is better able to prepare for the next season, it was agreed that the next AGM should be held towards the end of the Spring university semester, at a time convenient to encourage attendance from Cardiff University as well as the club sides.
Various other positive developments and proposals were made, and their is plenty of reason to be optimistic about the future of Welsh korfball.
